"Once again you’ve proved to be right on target concerning the needs of NC nonprofits. The April 28th seminar sounds like a great opportunity for any organization concerned with funding today and in the future. We were discussing exploring this avenue yesterday at our board meeting and then here is today’s email! Thanks for being so proactive for all of us in the nonprofit sector." - Emily Moose, Rutherford Housing Partnership

“Very informative and thought provoking seminar!” - Doug Kovash, Development Director Firehouse Shelter, Birmingham, AL

2012 Teleseminars

Thursday, February 9, 2012, Noon (EASTERN): "Nonprofit Strategic Planning" with Katha Kissman, Interim Leadership and Nonprofit Organizational Development Consultant

“Everyone says we need a strategic plan!”  Yes, we agree!  A dedicated strategic planning process allows the key players (board, staff, stakeholders) to participate in higher level strategic thinking -- a chance to weigh in and develop a consensus roadmap for an organization.  This creates focus and can guide an effective allocation of resources to work toward the achievement of specific agreed upon goals.

A strategic plan usually involves the review of mission, vision, and values as well as a review of an organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.  With this information guiding the discussion and decision-making process, the board and staff together determine the specific goals for the next three to five years.  In order for a strategic plan to be a living guide, the goals must provide an overall compass for the operational direction of the organization.   Strategic planning is generally not an activity delegated to the staff or to a board committee or task force exclusively; rather, it requires the thoughtful participation of all involved with the governance for and implementation of mission.

This teleseminar will focus on:

1.       Preparing for the strategic planning process

2.       Developing your environmental scan (SWOT Analysis)

3.       What does the strategic planning retreat look like
