Business Name (DBA): REACH Resources
Category of Service: Description of business and/or services offered: Great employees are incredibly valuable to your organization. And, because they perform well, you may offer them greater responsibilities such as taking on a management role. This recognition is a wonderful reward for good people and expresses your confidence in their potential for doing more. That stellar employee accepts the job and before long, you notice it isn’t going well and he or she looses that bright shine that made them so special. What happened? So often we forget what it takes to manage other people. We know it takes much more than likability. It takes more that loyalty to the organization. It even takes more than longevity or knowing the work inside out. Management is a distinct craft. It is a whole new job and without training and education your stellar employee is not prepared for it. Once in the role, they quickly realize how difficult it is to delegate, give feedback, lead teams, and hold others accountable and so much more. They realize they are now ‘different’ from their former peers and it impacts them in many ways. How do you help a stellar employee excel is the manager role? They need the right tools, skills, knowledge and attitude to ‘be’ the manager. They need training, mentorship and coaching to succeed. Our company, REACH resources, offers expertise in learning and development for managers and executives. We understand the transition from employee to manager and can make this transition enjoyable and effective. Don’t loose your stellar employee when he or she fails to meet the manager role expectations. This is a loss you cannot afford. Background on business: Linda L. McDonald, MS is the executive director of REACH Resources. Linda received her master’s degree in Organizational Psychology from Springfield College and worked for nearly a decade at the University of MA, Amherst and an OD Specialist. Approximately 50% of the business that REACH Resources provides is with non-profit organizations. Testimonials and/or references: “Linda, thank you, for bringing your great consulting and coaching skills to my colleague and me. Because of our work together, we are experiencing greater efficiency, improved communication and enhanced creativity as we continue to solve problems together in our ever-changing work environment. I know this work has had a huge impact on staff satisfaction, learning and productivity. Thank you.”~ John Reiff, Commonwealth College “Linda has been great to work with as our library and other municipal offices work to improve our service to the public. Her trainings, management coaching and program development skills were invaluable. We would have taken three times as long to try and do this on our own. And we never would have opened our communications with each other without her safe guidance and support.”~ Maria Pagan, Holyoke Library
