Nolo offers reliable, easy-to-understand legal tools that just about anyone can use, and our staff of lawyer-editors regularly revises, updates and improves everything.

Books – Nolo publishes more than 150 affordable, plain-English books that can guide you through a legal problem -- or save you time and money if you hire a lawyer. Updates for each book are posted at nolo.com.

Software– Nolo's software products are up to date and easy to use. They work just as hard as lawyers do to produce high-quality legal documents -- at a fraction of the cost.

Online document preparation– At nolo.com, you can make a will or trust, incorporate your business, trademark your business’s name, and much more -- all online, but with Nolo’s clear guidance along the way. It doesn’t get any easier than that.

Encyclopedia– Got a legal question? Find your answer in Nolo’s free online encyclopedia. It’s packed with thousands of pages of free articles and information on just about any legal topic imaginable from property law and immigration to divorce and real estate. There’s a free law dictionary, too, that translates "legalese" into plain English.

Blogs– Many Nolo authors blog about the latest news and information on a wide range of legal topics from foreclosure and bankruptcy to employment and same-sex legal issues.

Lawyer Directory – Nolo's unique lawyer directory offers a comprehensive profile of each attorney listed, to help you select the right attorney for your situation.

Background on you and/or your business:

In the early 1970s, co-founder Ralph "Jake" Warner was a legal aid lawyer, serving low-income families in the San Francisco Bay area. Frustrated by having to turn away working people who didn’t qualify for free legal aid but couldn’t afford lawyers, Warner and colleague Ed Sherman began writing do-it-yourself legal guides.

After numerous publishers rejected them, Warner and Sherman began publishing the books themselves. When personal computers came along, Nolo started developing software. And when the Internet arrived, Nolo created a website that offered free information, online document preparation, and useful links.

Today, the company still operates out of a former clock factory in Berkeley, California, and remains true to the original vision of its founders. Warner remains active as CEO of Nolo.
